The Lebanese International University was established in April 2001. Its predecessor was the "Bekaa University" under Presidential Decree No. 5294. Its magnificent campus was built in the western region of the Bekaa Valley; Al-Khyara.
After the first freshmen graduated in June 2002, the new Beirut campus opened and was renamed "Lebanon International University", or LIU for short. Later, five more campuses were built: Sidon, Tyre, Nabatiyah, Tripoli and Mount Lebanon adjacent to southern Lebanon.
